Our Vicar

Mike is married to Charmian and they have two children – a daughter Victoria and a son David. Mike and Charmian have been married since 1969.

Mike served 25 years in the Army as a boy and adult, retiring as a Warrant Officer in 1987.

Mike was ordained in 1989 in Chester, after training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. Mike served his curacy in Winsford and then spent 17 years in Congleton. In 2010 Mike retired and served in Alcester Minster (House for Duty). In November 2013 Mike became vicar (House for Duty) here at St Philip’s.

About the Parish

Potter’s Green is situated in the North East of Coventry coming under the Coventry East Deanery of the Diocese of Coventry. The population is approximately 4,200.

The parish includes an Industrial Estate which opened in about 1973. Facing the church is a shopping centre consisting of fish and chip shop, three take-aways, hair salon, post office/general store, newsagents/general store, sandwich bar and dispensing chemist and butcher.

Three schools are within the parish boundary: Potters Green Primary School, Grace Academy and Cardinal Wiseman Catholic Comprehensive School

There are two cemeteries in the parish.

The estate could be described as working class with a few professional people. 95% of housing is owner-occupied.

Close to the church on the corner, diagonally opposite the church is a General Practitioner Surgery with a dispensing chemist opposite.

A community centre and social club is located just beyond the doctors’ surgery.

There is one well established pub on the outskirts of the parish.

The headquarters of Coventry City Mission lies on the western edge of the parish.

A former Roman Catholic Convent lies within the parish. There is a United Reformed chapel one hundred yards south of the church.
